UD-18-03

​Community solar is a powerful tool that can provide access to clean, affordable energy to anyone, reducing barriers for renters, and others who may not be able to have rooftop solar. Community solar programs are popular and successful nationally, especially in majority-renter cities.

EFNO encouraged the Council to create a community solar policy to unlock this tool for New Orleans and participated in docket UD-18-03 which created a rule in 2019. However, the rule has flaws that have stymied the development of community owned solar resources in New Orleans. Quite simply, the rules did not provide adequate financial incentive to community solar developers. ​​The great news is, the Council recently re-opened this docket and amended the Community Solar Rules so that Community Solar can thrive in Orleans Parish.
