When resilience planning, utilities use modeling information about future weather conditions in the areas they serve, looking at a range of different possibilities, including worst-case scenarios. Climate change is already increasing costs for electric customers significantly, a reality we’re facing in Louisiana.
Using Powder River Basin coal from Wyoming for decades, the power plants have been a source of power in Louisiana under varying ownership, lately Cleco, and NRG, and Northern States Power Company before that.
After a 13 year process, the Louisiana Public Service Commission voted 3-2 to approve a Final Rule with a Third-Party Administrator (TPA) model to administer robust statewide energy efficiency programs.
Energy Efficiency programs are nearly always seen as a win-win by reducing energy bills, creating jobs, improving indoor air quality and reducing strain on our electric grid. The cheapest energy is the energy you don’t use.

The law states: “If you feel that the Utility has violated your rights or is in violation of its Customer Service Regulations, you have the right to participate in the Customer Complaint and Dispute Resolution Process."
The Alliance encourages you to exercise your rights as a ratepayer and take advantage of this dispute resolution process if needed; and as your consumer advocate we're here to help. The latest vote was postponed after state senators considered shoring up the budget with a natural gas tax.
