Following vigorous stakeholder engagement on the draft rules for more than a decade, we’re disappointed to see the Louisiana Public Service Commission (LPSC) defer the vote on the Energy Efficiency Rules until January 2024.

These rules will allow for the creation of robust, inclusive and streamlined energy efficiency programs for the majority of Louisianans, allowing for not only energy savings but bill savings as a result of lower energy usage while still keeping people comfortable, healthy and safe in their homes.

As currently designed, these programs will be administered by a state-wide administrator to help streamline the program offerings and leverage potential federal funding from The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) and The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). Energy Efficiency programs are nearly always seen as a win-win by reducing energy bills, creating jobs, improving indoor air quality and reducing strain on our electric grid. The cheapest energy is the energy you don’t use.

Following more than ten years of engagement, and billions of dollars spent on wasted energy, we are ready for these rules to be finalized so we can get to work in developing equitable and effective energy efficiency programs.

We’re hopeful the LPSC will have a successful start in 2024 by passing energy efficiency rules for Louisiana.

The Commission’s January B&E will be held on January 24, 2024 at 9am in Baton Rouge. We hope to see you there!
