BP12 A Day of Radical Reflection + Action

On April 20, 2010, the BP Drilling Disaster occurred on the Deepwater Horizon oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico killing 11 workers and setting off the largest oil spill in U.S. history. 12 years later, offshore drilling continues to threaten our Gulf Coast communities, workers, wildlife, and tourism and fishing economies.
The current five-year plan for offshore oil and gas leasing will expire on July 1, 2022. Prior to that date, President Biden is expected to issue a "proposed program" for offshore oil and gas leasing which will kick-off a 90-day public comment period. During his campaign, Biden promised to end new leasing for offshore drilling. Now, rising gas prices and pressure from the oil and gas industry could threaten the president's resolve - we cannot let that happen. The BP Drilling Disaster had catastrophic impacts on the Gulf environment, wildlife, communities and economies. President Biden must hear from us on the importance of preventing future disasters before he puts out his offshore drilling plan.

NIRS Stop Nuclear Bailouts | September 13, 2021
Proposals from the White House and Congress would invest up to $50 billion dollars in subsidies for aging, uneconomical nuclear power plants over the next decade. The Biden Administration’s infrastructure bill is our chance to take real, effective action on climate, economic renewal, and a just future.
These nuclear bailouts would perpetuate environmental injustices while blocking effective progress towards climate action. We can’t let the nuclear industry block actual climate solutions, economic prosperity, and justice to subsidize the dirty, unjust, and corrupt energy systems of the status quo. Join NIRS and activists across the nation on Monday, September 13th for a day of action to STOP the nuclear bailout.

Pushing back against the American Petroleum Institutes Disinformation| July 26, 2021
Oil Change International, Accountable US and AAE invite you to a webinar where we'll provide some resources you may need to fight back against the American Petroleum Institute's (API's) disinformation.
The American Petroleum Institute is busy doing dirty work for the oil industry at the heart of our climate crisis and standing in the way of real action to protect our communities and combat climate change. The lies and political influence of API are having a real impact on people at the fence lines of fossil fuel infrastructure. On the ground, communities are paying the price every day. Join us and hear from Accountable US on how they're pushing back against the industry's dirty influence and revealing oil and gas companies' climate hypocrisy. Oil change experts will lay out the most recent analysis so that you're equipped with facts to fight back. Here at The Alliance we witness first hand the effect API's actions have on our community and we will talk about that impact. |

Entergy's Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) Public Meeting #2
August 9th, 2019 | New Orleans City Council Chambers, 1300 Perdido St.
Come learn about Entergy's Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) – the Key to Long-term Energy Efficiency. This is the planning process by which Entergy estimates its future power supply needs and assesses the resources available to it to meet those needs.
ENO will present its report to the public and hear public comment regarding it. This is your opportunity to let your voice be heard!
More about IRP's:
Integrated Resource Plan policy directs utility companies to put energy efficiency on equal footing with typical forms of energy production, like coal plants, when allocating resources to meet energy needs. The IRP will increase transparency and enable regulators to shift towards cleaner ways of generating energy. Done well, these plans guide the way to lower waste and utility bills for Louisiana families and businesses. The Alliance succeeded in getting good integrated resource plan rules passed in New Orleans and the State, now we are making sure these plans work for rate-payers. The Alliance is an intervener on the IRP docket in New Orleans and is actively participating in the development of the plan.

Our Day In Court | July 19, 2018
Come out on July 19th to show out for democracy! The past New Orleans City Council violated New Orleanians’ constitutional rights at the critical public meetings concerning Entergy’s gas plant application — the Oct. 16th (last fall) public hearing, and the Feb 21st Utility Committee meeting. The corrupted democratic process around Entergy’s gas plant proposal has made national headlines. When: Thursday, July 19 at 10 am Where: New Orleans District Court, Civil Division (421 Loyola Ave, New Orleans, Louisiana 70112) |
Tell the Council to Stop Entergy's Gas Plant | June 2018
Attend City Council Meetings and Give a Public Comment on June 7th & June 14th Entergy's gas plant would raise electric bills in New Orleans for 30+ years and pollute neighborhoods. Entergy has recently admitted that actors were paid to advocate for its gas plant at public meetings where the community was locked out. The new City Council must stop Entergy's gas plant from moving forward and hold an uncorrupted, democratic process on Entergy's gas plant. New Orleans deserves a true voice and an energy future that is renewable, healthy and affordable. Call your district council member & council members at large!
