PPH- The Clean Air Act- 50 Years of Legal Pollution (Monique Harden and Logan Burke)

Logan Burke discusses how air pollution affects our lives, communities, and nation with Monique Harden from Deep South Center for Environmental Justice (DSCEJ). December 31, 2020 is the 50th Anniversary of the signing of the Clean Air Act- 50 years of legal pollution. The title "Clean Air Act" is incredibly misleading- for 50 years this Act has allowed companies to legally release some of the most carcinogenic, mutogenic, hazardous, and harmful pollutants. Rather than keep pollutants out of our air, water, land, and bodies, the laws as written enable legal pollution by merely requiring companies to self-report emissions.

Cleaner indoor air improves cognition and productivity, reduces the spread of other airborne diseases, protects against outdoor air pollutants such as smog and wildfire smoke, and decreases the number of environmental triggers for conditions like asthma and allergies.
