Center for International Environmental Law’s (CIEL) President, Carroll Muffett, will be testifying, speaking about the limited potential, high costs, and history of failures of CCS, and how the false promise of CCS threatens to entrench fossil fuels and slow the transition to clean and renewable energy.
The hearing started at 8:30am CT on April 28th.
Muffett will also highlight the growing health and environmental risks of CCS to frontline and fenceline communities, which fall disproportionately on communities of color. Finally, he will discuss how proposed offshore carbon dioxide storage in the Gulf of Mexico could increase the risks of environmental harm.
