May 2nd, 2022 Update: These positions have been filled. The Alliance is looking to expand our team and currently have three open positions! We are looking for people who are up to the task of helping us take our amazing work to the next level. 

State Regulatory Director:
The State Regulatory Director is responsible for advancing the Alliance’s policy priorities at the Louisiana Public Service Commission to protect consumers from unfair costs and burdens.

Executive Assistant:
We are looking for an Executive Assistant to perform a variety of administrative tasks and be the supportive force that empowers our non-profits growing work.

State Regulatory Director

The State Regulatory Director is responsible for advancing the Alliance’s policy priorities at the Louisiana Public Service Commission to protect consumers from unfair costs and burdens. The Director is responsible for day-to-day management of the technical policy work, education, outreach, and associated activities with protecting consumers. Travel may be required. Currently, our office is working with a hybrid model- half of the week in office, half remote (WFH policies are subject to change).

Responsibilities and Duties
Regulatory Policy Program Management
  • Direct the Alliance’s policy work before the Louisiana Public Service Commission.
  • Monitor PSC bulletins and flag important dockets that relate to Alliance priorities and make recommendations to the Executive Director on dockets for engagement
  • File to Intervene in appropriate dockets
  • Make public comment/testimony when necessary.
  • Write and submit comments into dockets in a timely manner
  • Stay current on new models of responsible energy policy and new technology
  • Research successful models of responsible energy policy and recruit national experts to support AAE regulatory policy work
  • Develop written support materials about Alliance positions on energy policy issues
  • Devise integrated strategies that advance the organization’s formal regulatory work with public relations, grass roots and stakeholder coordination, and direct engagement with decision makers and their staff
  • Educate allies, decision-makers, and staff about consumer issues
  • Serve as spokesperson for the Alliance, representing the organization and its members in meetings with government agencies, officials, advisory committees, the press and other public forums.
  • Direct the design and implementation of long and short-term strategies to promote the Alliance’s mission with local and national leaders, the media and the public
  • Monitor expenditures related to regulatory policy and stay on budget

Staff, Intern, Consultant management
  • Comply with the Alliance’s non-discriminatory policy
  • Supervise and delegate responsibilities to assigned interns and staff
  • Ensure assigned interns perform work that is in line with Alliance mission
  • Help with interviewing and hiring as needed
  • Mentor assigned intern staff

Consultant Management
  • Direct the work of technical experts, additional legal counsel, media/PR, graphic designer, and / or other type of consultant related to State Policy Work
  • Write scope of work for policy-related consultants to be approved by the Executive Director
  • Manage time of consultants to ensure time budgets are maintained

Communications
  • Maintain and cultivate relationships with local and national press; including but not limited to initiating ideas for press stories and/or offering background research and general information to various types of media outlets
  • Work with ED and Communications Coordinator to secure earned Media hits, TV, Radio, Online, and Print
  • Write or solicit articles on current energy policy for Alliance blog/newsletter and other publications
  • Contribute to press releases/ give quotes to media
  • Organize press conferences when appropriate
  • Meet with Editorial Boards when appropriate
  • Ensure messaging on State Policy is consistent with Alliance mission and brand
  • Provide written support materials about Alliance position on energy policy and other issues of interest to consumers
Qualifications
Qualifications:
  • 5 years experience in law, energy, regulatory, or other policy preferred
  • Developing, executing, and managing policy campaigns
  • 5 years experience with program management preferred
  • Ability to leverage partnerships and volunteers to maximize impact
  • Experience working with regulators, government, and/or policy leaders
  • Established relationships with government, community, and clean energy leaders
  • Ability to work with communities and professionals that are different than you in culture, ethnicity, political viewpoints, age, economic situation, or other difference.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Published blogs, newsletter articles, or other content
  • Excellent prioritization and organizational skills
  • Proficient in commonly used office software (office suite/gsuite)
Compensation and Benefits
Starting salary of $60,000-$70,000, plus standard AAE benefits package including health care, 401K matching, flexible work hours, friendly working environment, starting vacation at 2 weeks per year, plus Christmas week, Juneteenth, and all national holidays.

Executive Assistant

We are looking for an Executive Assistant to perform a variety of administrative tasks and be the supportive force that empowers our non-profits growing work. The ideal person for the job will be a proactive problem solver with exceptional communication and time management skills as well as a meticulous attention to detail. They will have previous experience working in an office environment, performing administrative duties, working with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, and QuickBooks, and providing support to staff and partner organizations. To be successful in this role, you should be well-organized, passionate about the work, and be able to act without guidance. Ultimately, we are looking for someone who will contribute to the efficiency of our team by providing personalized and timely support to co-workers, but also grow individually and develop personal relationships.

Responsibilities and Duties
In addition to day-to-day office tasks, this role supports AAE as the Financial Lead for the Gulf South for Green New Deal (GS4GND) in Louisiana.
  • Organize and maintain the office filing system
  • Act as the point of contact among staff, as well as outside partners & the GS4GND network
  • Manage information flow in a timely and accurate manner
  • Manage, maintain and update staff calendars and set up meetings using Doodle, Zoom, iCal, Google Calendar, and other applications
  • Screen phone calls, inquiries, and correspondence, and route accordingly
  • Maintain confidentiality of highly sensitive information
  • Work with Admin Director to keep up with office supply inventory
  • Format information for internal and external communication – memos, emails, presentations, reports
  • Facilitation, note taking and taking of minutes during meetings
  • Oversee (send, receive and keep track of) GS4GND daily expenses and prepare reports
  • Develop efficient and transparent processes for disbursing funds
  • Prepare expense reports
  • Data Entry, organization and maintenance of all financial records in Quickbooks
  • Manage documents associated with grant applications
  • Communicate directly with partners to inform of upcoming participatory budgeting meetings and deadlines for requesting funds
  • Keep track of and communicate reminders, action items, and deadlines

Qualifications & Skills
Skills
  • Work experience as an Assistant, Personal Assistant, Secretary, Bookkeeper or similar role
  • Ability to take charge and learn new systems quickly
  • Software: Excellent MS Office, Google Suite, and Quickbooks knowledge
  • Outstanding organizational and time management skills
  • Familiarity with office gadgets and applications (e.g. e-calendars and copy machines)
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Discretion and confidentiality

​Energy Grid Organizer

For nearly a decade the gulf coast (in particular LA, MS, and AR) has lagged behind other parts of the country in terms of renewable energy deployment and needed grid investments for a modern, resilient electricity system. Momentum is building in the highly important state of Louisiana, with the passage of a Renewable Portfolio Standard in the City of New Orleans and the Louisiana Governor’s Climate Initiatives Task Force effort which has voiced support for transmission and clean energy to meet the state’s Net Zero by 2050 goal. The Alliance is creating a position expressly to educate and organize at the grassroots to support the momentum for a renewable energy future and the infrastructure needed to see it through.

Responsibilities and Duties
Primary Responsibilities
  • Coordinate with clean energy grid leadership and core strategic partners to build a diverse coalition of grassroots and grass tops advocates to engage in local, state, and regional decision making processes critical to achieving a clean energy future in Louisiana and the gulf south region more broadly.
  • Organize to build broad and vocal support for grid investments that are centered in equity and responsive to the urgent need to reduce emissions and build resilience.
  • Facilitate regular communication among partners to track initiatives, uplift shared priorities, and motivate the goal of planning a clean energy grid for the region.

​Provide direct support to coalition efforts in the region including outreach, campaign, and communications support. Specific examples may include:
  • Organize around local and state clean energy/climate milestones,
  • Coordinate with allied advocates that can engage in key decisions,
  • Provide planning and logistical support to regional transmission for clean energy “convenings” to educate the public about the need to invest in the transmission and distribution systems to decarbonize,
  • Build connections and coalitions with local and state-level advocates with a goal of uplifting traditionally underrepresented voices in energy decision making forums.
  • Media outreach, work with campaign and communications consultant,
  • Track and engage in local, state, and regional decision-making or stakeholder forums to amplify the engagement of partners, particularly underrepresented and under-invested voices.




Qualifications & Skills
Priority Qualifications and Experience
  • Campaign experience, facilitation, coalition building, collaboration, organization and communication skills are all a must.
  • Previous issue advocacy or electoral campaign outreach experience, including energy issue advocacy, is desirable but not a requirement.
  • Role requires a driven self-starter(s) who can identify opportunities and challenges.
  • Patience while supporting the leadership and development of campaign partners.
  • Ability to measure progress toward shared goals with allies and to proactively identify strategic adjustments or investments as needs arise.

Ability to commute/relocate:
  • Louisiana: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)

Education:
  • Bachelor's (Preferred)

Experience:
  • Law, energy, regulatory, or other policy: 1 year (Preferred)
  • Community Engagement Specialists: 2 years (Preferred)

Compensation and Benefits
Starting salary of $50-55,000 plus standard AAE benefits package including health care, 401K matching, starting vacation at 2 weeks per year, plus Christmas week, Juneteenth, and all national holidays.
