The future of Louisiana’s Solar for Ya’ll program is in jeopardy as the EPA considers clawing back its funding.

Last year, the state was granted $156 million through the Inflation Reduction Act to launch a statewide “Solar for Y’all” program to provide grants and loans for low-income and disadvantaged residents to build out solar energy infrastructure to improve energy resilience.

The program is designed not only to put solar on people’s rooftops who couldn’t otherwise afford it, but also to invest in communities and invest in homes.

  • Louisiana’s “Solar for Y’all” program could generate as much as a $780 million investment in jobs and energy for families.
  • Participating households can expect at least a 20% reduction in their electricity bills, with some programs delivering 50% or more.
  • Nationwide, the program aims to save low-income households $350 million annually, amounting to $8 billion over a 25-year period.

Builds Local Economies

  • The program generates hundreds of thousands of well-paid jobs in solar installation, workforce training, and project deployment.
  • Projects often include strong workforce development plans, creating sustainable career paths.

Improves Energy Resilience & Reliability

  • Programs include solar-plus-storage, ensuring crucial services like refrigeration for medicine or lights in emergencies remain operational during power outages.
  • 49 states and 5 tribes are currently implementing these programs.

Improves Family Health

  • The program helps reduce the air toxins associated with the production of fossil fuel products and reduces chronic diseases such as asthma, especially in children, and cancer for all ages.
