Last year your electricity regulators, the Louisiana Public Service Commission, approved a refund for Cleco and SWEPCO customers. The refund comes from a settlement associated with overcharging at the Dolet Hills coal power plant. When it comes to your electric bill you need it to be as low as possible – and Cleco & SWEPCO have been charging you for power from coal that isn’t the lowest-cost available.
Public pressure helped shine a light on and put a stop to this shady behavior, and starting on July 1 you’re getting money back for Cleco & SWEPCO’s mistake.
That’s because you’re still being overcharged for coal power at Rodemacher 2 that also isn’t cheapest available. Burning coal at Rodemacher 2 instead of investing in energy efficiency, or more affordable, clean energy sources is costing us $165 million extra a year. That’s money we could have back in our pockets.
