Charles Rice sent a letter to council members arguing that the idea of the City Council conditioning approval of a gas plant with citizen protections is outrageous.

As far as we can tell, he wants to make a risky bet with our money, and he is showing his hand.

Regulators around the country have used their authority to protect ratepayers and citizens. New Orleans city council has the same authority. Mr. Rice argues that Entergy will not engage in “risky market speculation.” We wonder why the citizens of New Orleans, who cannot afford such risks should be required to engage in such speculation instead.
