Stop IMTT’s Permit Expansion in St. Rose

IMTT is seeking permits to expand and emit more harmful chemicals in St. Rose to make way for it’s St. Charles Clean Fuels’ “Blue” Ammonia Plant with Carbon Capture Storage.

The deadline to comment is September 10!

This expansion puts St. Rose families at an even greater risk from ammonia leaks, explosions, and toxic air emissions. The community is already overburdened by pollution. We cannot allow more tanks and more toxins.

IMTT has applied for a permit from The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (LDEQ) that would allow:

  • Four new ammonia tanks and an entire ammonia storage system
  • Two new emergency flares and increased toxic emissions
  • Dozens of additional tanks and new pollution sources

I strongly oppose the Proposed Part 70 Air Operating Permit Renewal and Modification for IMTT (AI Number 4885, Permit Number 2520-00033-V16, Activity Number PER20200009).

This permit would allow IMTT to build four new ammonia tanks and an ammonia storage system, add emergency flares, increase nitrogen oxide (NOx) and carbon monoxide (CO) emissions, and reauthorize dozens of other tanks. Our community in St. Rose is already overburdened with toxic industry and high health risks.

Many residents report noxious fumes in our homes and community, and IMTT has had numerous fires and been fined by the EPA. Adding more tanks and more emissions is unacceptable and hazardous to our health. Protect our families, our air, and our future. No new ammonia tanks. No more emissions in St. Rose.

I respectfully request that LDEQ DENY this permit. In addition, I request that LDEQ hold a PUBLIC HEARING so that the residents of St. Rose and St. Charles Parish have the opportunity to share our concerns on the record.
