Tell Congress to stop allocating federal funding—including 45Q and 45V tax credits, subsidies, and grants—that supports carbon capture & other dangerous distractions.

Carbon capture & sequestration (CCS) is a dangerous, expensive, and unproven technology. Carbon capture has never been proven to work at scale or to securely store carbon over the long-term. Transporting carbon is dangerous and complex.

Just ask residents of Satartia, Mississippi, where a Denbury Enterprises CO2 pipeline ruptured in 2020. Three hundred people were evacuated, and 45 people had to be hospitalized, including some sickened individuals whom authorities found near the scene acting like ‘zombies’. Agencies are still trying to understand the science, yet the industry is planning to build these pipelines near schools, shopping centers and hospitals.

Our government is providing BIG money to the fossil fuel industry and other polluters on the public’s dime through 45Q & 45V tax credits. The 45Q tax credit for CCS enriches fossil fuel corporations and slows down real climate action. As of 2019, 90% of 45Q claims were fraudulent. Billions in taxpayer subsidies already wasted!

Real solutions for climate change do exist, supported by Louisiana communities. Our leaders should focus on strategies that maximize public benefit and ensure a stable and safe economic future for Louisiana and its people. Carbon capture does not fit that bill.
