Courtney Lanctot is a storyteller, entrepreneur, and founder of The Unpopular Black, a platform dedicated to increasing representation, information, and access to the American outdoors for the Black community.
Raised in Anchorage, Alaska, Courtney developed an early connection to nature that continues to shape her work today. Drawing from a professional background in marketing, technology, digital strategy, fashion, and brand development, she uses storytelling, partnerships, and media to help people build deeper relationships with the outdoors and with one another.
Courtney has collaborated with organizations including REI, Outside Inc., and Travel Noire, and has spoken at institutions such as the University of Denver and the University of Colorado Boulder on topics including outdoor access, representation, and community. Her work has also included conservation and advocacy efforts in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and Owyhee Canyon through Love is King.
Through The Unpopular Black, Courtney works to expand who is seen, supported, and welcomed in outdoor spaces while helping people discover the transformative power of nature, travel, and adventure.
Through this work she has also become an advocate of environmental justice that has led to this board.
