Alyx Darensbourg

Director of Staff

Alyx Darensbourg is a Black queer social justice advocate, former public defender, and abolitionist. They bring a community-centered, service-minded, and restorative justice approach to all of the work they do, including in their role as The Alliance’s Director of Staff.

Alyx’s family and work has led them to live across the country, but New Orleans is where they have called home since 2020. Their New Orleans roots come by way of a Great Migration boomerang – Alyx’s father and grandparents are from New Orleans and relocated to California – where Alyx grew up – in the 1960s.

Alyx brings a wealth of experience from both the legal and business world. Prior to joining The Alliance, Alyx spent five years as a public defender representing adults and children in Orleans Parish with both the Orleans Public Defenders and the Louisiana Center for Children’s rights. In those organizations, Alyx represented clients, supervised a cohort of young attorneys, and led staff and intern recruitment and hiring, focusing on developing local talent that reflect the populations we represent. Alyx has a long history of working in service of marginalized communities spanning legal aid volunteering, tenant organizing, and mentorship. Prior to their legal career, Alyx spent six years working in retail fashion, where they led teams and business decisions for segments of large apparel brands.
