Friday Fav: The Warriors of Qiugang

Environmental Justice

This Oscar nominated short was co produced by Yale Environment 360, together with filmmakers Ruby Yang and Thomas Lennon.

It details the struggle of one Chinese village as they fight against chemical plants polluting their air and water supplies. Although it happened on the other side of the world, the fight these villagers lead to protect their environment and their livelihoods echoes similar fights in progress here in Louisiana and the Gulf region to attain corporate and governmental accountability as part of the coastal restoration process.

The story of this village in rural China is universal in so many ways. It’s the story of a few people who took up a cause that was important to them and found a way to affect change despite the obstacles put in front of them. That’s why the Warriors of Qiugang are our Friday Fav. Check out the trailer below and watch the full documentary here.
