My case for why you should always buy and use EnergyStar products for your home.
I’ve used EnergyStar products for years and have always bought them when I could. Their products are usually higher in price than other appliances, but I always consider the long term savings on these better-for-the-environment-products and you should too.
I recently took a look at the www.energystar.gov website, and I was amazed at the variety of products they now have. Most people know about energystar appliances, computers, heating and cooling: air conditioners and heaters, but they also have plumbing fixtures and other electronics items, like cordless phones, televisions etc. What really blew my mind was that you can now buy an ENERGY STAR certified home. That’s right, you can buy a home that is certified to be energy efficient. Believe it or not there are now over 1 million homes certified to carry the energy star logo.
These homes will help families do their part in reducing our nation’s energy consumption, as well as cut greenhouse gas emissions. I do see, one day, the possibility that everyone, who is in the market to buy a home, will have opportunity to buy an energystar certified home. It’s in our future!
What makes a energystar certified home? Well, here are a few things which make up what they call a complete thermal enclosure system, which includes comprehensive air sealing, properly installed insulation, and high–performance windows, which will work together to enhance comfort, improve durability, reduce maintenance costs, lower monthly utility bills, and improves public health.
There is also a ENERGY STAR Program that offers affordable housing homeowners solutions for ways to cut costs and increase home energy efficiency. These solutions reduce energy costs and save money by making homes more affordable, sustainable, and livable for lower-income families while helping the environment.
It really is amazing what Energystar is doing for the environment and for us. So, if you want to help the environment, buy an energystar product, but remember you may end up spending a few extra dollars up-front, but in the long run you’ll be saving not only money, but the environment and your health.
