Clarence Matthews
A recent graduate of Alcee Fortier Senior High School, Clarence joined the Louisiana Green Corps because he always wanted to work in the building trades, and he heard that skills in green building would help his career. Previous to joining the Corps, Clarence worked at a warehouse that was steady work, but not too challenging. During his time at the Corps, Clarence stood out as a quick learner and a hard worker. He says of the program, "it meant alot that they helped young people learn about weatherization." Clarence especially enjoyed installing radiant barrier and caulking.
After graduating the LA Green Corps, Clarence became a summer VISTA with Global Green, doing outreach about environmental and green building issues. He will use the Education Awards he gets from both programs to enroll in Louisiana Technical College to study carpentry. It's Clarence's goal to combine his knowledge of weatherization and carpentry to create a lasting and meaningful career.
"I love going green!" - Clarence Matthews
The LA Green Corps program is a collaboration of a network of organizations including the Corps Network, Americorps, ARC of Greater New Orleans, Old City Building Center, Job 1 and Louisiana Workforce Commission, Department of Labor.
