The Louisiana Green Corps trains young adults in building weatherization, energy efficiency building, deconstruction, basic carpentry, workplace safety and other skills.  The program provides trainees from the New Orleans area with both hard and soft skills, a regular paycheck, funding for additional training and work placement counseling.

Preparing corpsmembers for a successful green-collar career requires a multi-faceted and dynamic training setting. For this reason, the Green Corps training program utilizes both classroom and in-the-field education. At the end of a seven month program, trainees are ready either for entry-level employment or an apprenticeship program.

In preparation for a future in the green-collar economy, participants learn:

  • Home Weatherization
  • Installing Insulation (various types)
  • Installing Radiant Barrier
  • Energy Auditing and Quality Control
  • Basic Carpentry and Job Readiness Skills

The Green Corps program is not just an educational program or a job, but is actually both. The staff is committed to ensuring that graduates have the skills they need to move to the next level of growth.  This is why it provides extensive training in wrap-around skills (such as resume-building, GED prep, and introductions to budgeting) as well as an AmeriCorps Educational Award to be used for further education.
