Tubular Daylight Devices
ISSUE:
Tubular Daylighting Devices (TDD) insulating window films are a cost effective way to cut heat and glare by more than half. The film's inner layer, the low-emissivity coating, is composed of a microscopically thin layer of metal. Not only are you blocking excess heat when it is hot outside, you are also keeping heat indoors during the winter, giving you year round savings. It will also block harmful UV radiation that can cause skin cancer and fade fabric colors. The film also makes the window more shatter-resistant, which can be can be an added bonus during a storm. The product has a slight tint, but is barely noticeable when applied to window glass. When looking for a low-E film, compare the shading coefficient on different products, as not all of them block the same amount of heat and glare. Lower-E films are best for year round comfort; a lower coefficient is best for blocking radiant heat; lower visible light transmission films block more glare. It can last up to ten years or more and removal solutions are available that dissolve the adhesive without damaging the window. It can reduce heat loss by up to 40%, adding up to a savings of up to a 10% on your energy bills.
