Trees are a simple yet effective way to control the amount of sun that enters your home, significantly affecting the temperature indoors. Planting a deciduous tree (one that loses its leaves in the fall) on the south side of a home blocks the heat during summer. In winter, the tree has no leaves and the sunlight barrier is removed, allowing heat inside. It cuts down on your heating and cooling bills drastically. Trees and other landscaping help to absorb excessive water that tends to run to storm drains or stay standing. Also, it creates a habitat for native and migratory birds. Native plants will grow best in our unique environment.
