As an alternative to lumber, steel studs are cost-effective and have a consistent quality, which can meet the demands of residential construction. Resources for steel are plentiful and waste can be recycled. It has long been used in commercial building because it is versatile, strong, lightweight, non-combustible and resistant to insects and rotting/rusting. Also, it will not shrink, split, or warp, like the characteristics of wood when infused with moisture. Because of the humidity found in Louisiana, steel-framed homes may be a viable alternative to lumber because of its moisture resistance and ability to withstand the highest wind loads.
