Solar Water Heater

 

Solar water heaters can be fitted onto a roof to collect radiant heat from the sun. The water heating system includes a storage tank and a solar collector. Solar collectors use the sun’s energy to transfer radiant heat to water directly or heats up solar fluid, heating water indirectly. A hot water cylinder stores the water heated during the day for use later. It can provide enough hot water for the average household during the summer months and half of the need in winter months. Your existing hot water heater can even operate if needed during extremely overcast days. The initial costs will be offset significantly with Louisiana’s solar tax credit for solar systems and installation. Since 1/3 of your energy bill is already being used on water heating, using a free energy source, the sun, will substantially reduce costs and the savings will pay for the system in a few years.
