Sharp Solar in the Lower 9th Ward

The Alliance for Affordable Energy with the collaboration of the Holy Cross Neighborhood Association (HCNA) facilitated the Sharp Solar Project to identify 10 sites – a community center and 9 low to moderate income homes – to receive Sharp Solar’s 1.5 kW PV system donations. These 10 solar systems were donated for the purpose of serving as models of clean, renewable energy for the city.  It has since become an ongoing educational tool for the city through quarterly “Clean Energy Homes Tours” in which people all over our region can come to learn about how to rebuild or renovate their own properties using energy efficient technologies and solar power.

In addition, we have arranged through our partner organization Green Light New Orleans to have compact fluorescent lightbulbs installed and volunteers worked to weatherize and install the energy efficient upgrades at the 10 sites. As a 501(c)3 (nonprofit) organization, all Alliance donations are tax deductible.

We, and the other parties involved, sincerely appreciate Sharp Solar’s donation of ten 1.5 kW PV systems to the Alliance for Affordable Energy for creating 10 Clean Energy Showcase Sites that will provide our community with a unique, hands on opportunity to learn how to use solar power and energy efficiency to save energy, money, and pollution.
