Hot Water Heater Blanket

ISSUE:
As the second largest energy user in American homes, typical hot water heaters are very inefficient and can consume up to 25% of a home’s energy. It will also release excess heat into the house, requiring more A/C in the summer. Simply wrapping your existing water heater in an insulating blanket can reduce heat loss by about 25–40%, representing a savings of around 9% on your annual water heating costs. To maximize efficiency and avoid overheating the wire, set the thermostat on the heater to no higher than 120º or the medium setting if you have an insulation blanket wrapped around it. This simple step will pay itself off in a year.
