Batch System Solar Collector

 
ISSUE:
Integral Collector-Storage Systems Solar Collector (ICS), or batch system, is made of one or more black tanks or tubes housed in an insulated, glazed (glass or plastic covered) box. Cold water first passes through the solar collector, which preheats the water. The water then continues on to the conventional backup water heater, providing a reliable source of hot water. ICS systems are simple, reliable solar water heaters. These systems should only be installed in climates with mild freezing, such as Louisiana, because the collector itself or the outdoor pipes could freeze in severely cold weather.
