Energy Smart

Energy Smart is a citywide energy efficiency program for New Orleans. The program was passed by the New Orleans City Council in July of 2008, and in March of 2009 $11 million in seed funding was allocated as part of the Entergy New Orleans rate case. The original program design includes a call center to schedule appointments for trained professionals to assess homes and small businesses, a certified list of contractors, quality assurance mechanisms and financing so that customers can pay for energy efficiency improvements out of their monthly utility bills with no out-of-pocket costs.

Important dates in the summer and fall of 2009 for the implementation of Energy Smart:

July 2 – Entergy New Orleans to release their program design for the Energy Smart program
July 9 – Public hearing in City Council Chambers
July 9 – July 24 – period for public questions about the Energy Smart redesign
September 10 – Second public hearing
September 17 – City Council Utility Committee makes a final decision on the redesign of Energy Smart.
