LPSC rule says utilities can't shut off service during heat waves
July 2 - As both temperatures and power bills rise, Louisiana residents can at least be assured that during heat waves utilities can't shut off service, thanks to a rule passed by the Louisiana Public Service Commission in 2007. The rule, sponsored by Commissioner Foster Campbell, says utilities can not shut off customer power when the heat index reaches 105 degrees Fahrenheit or higher. The New Orleans City Council has a similar rule.
